At Alliant, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to get a quality education. We recognize that education is a great equalizer, and every classroom should have a qualified teacher at the helm. Following is what it takes for you to do your part in the state of Arizona.
The state of Arizona requires the following as means of licensure to teach in Arizona:
- AZ Certificate Requirements
- You must complete a teacher preparation program in elementary education from a board-approved educator preparation program, or from an accredited institution offering substantially similar training
- You’ll need least 12 weeks of student teaching
- You’ll need to pass the national evaluation series exam, the Arizona educator proficiency assessments exam, a similar out-of-state exam, have national board for professional teaching standards certification, or three years teaching experience
Each of the following items requires three semester hours, or 45 hours of experience:
- Teaching phonics
- Instructional strategies for delivering differentiated reading instruction, assessment, intervention, and remediation to support readers of varying ages and ability levels, including students with dyslexia
- Developmentally appropriate instructional delivery, facilitation, and methodologies for teaching language, math, science, social studies, and the arts
- Instructional design and lesson planning experience
- Knowledge of the learning environment including classroom management, assessment monitoring, and reporting progress
- Experience with teaching students with exceptionalities
- Understanding of professional responsibilities and ethical conduct
- AZ teachers must also have a course in the Arizona Constitution and U.S. constitution, as well as three semester hours in each of the following: phonics, dyslexia, and ethics (applicants that do not meet this requirement have three years to do so)
